What is AFCAT?

AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test, an entrance test for the entry in Indian Air Force working as commissioned officers’ position, technical roles (ground duty), and non-technical roles (ground duty). The frequency of the exam is twice a year, conducted by Indian Air Force, across the country.

For Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch

AFCAT Age Limit-

  • For Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch – Candidates must be aged between 20 and 26 years
  • For Flying Branch through AFCAT/ NCC Entry – candidates should be between 20 and 24 years

AFCAT Educational Qualification-

Educational Qualification for Technical Ground Duty 
For Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) (AE (L)) Candidates must have completed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Physics and Mathematics and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/ Technology from recognized university.

Educational qualifications for AFCAT-
  • Minimum of 60% in Math and Physics at 10+2 level.
  • A graduation degree with a minimum course period of 3 years is valid along with 60% aggregate.

Educational Qualification: Ground Duty(Non-Technical)Branches

  • I) Administration & Logistics: Graduate degree with a minimum of 60% marks with a three-year degree course from a recognized university OR should have cleared section A & B examination with a minimum of 60%.
  • II) Accounts: Candidates holding B.COM degree with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • II) Education: 50% marks in MBA/MCA  or MA/MSC degree in English/Physics/mathematics/chemistry/statistics/international relations/international studies/defence studies/psychology/computer science/IT/Management/mass communication/journalism public relation and minimum 60% marks in graduation.
  • IV) Special entry (flying branch): NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ Certificate acquired on or after 02 Jun 17 is mandatory and a minimum of 60% marks in graduation. Students mandatorily have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 60% marks in maths and physics.
  • V) Meteorology: Candidates should have scored minimum 50% marks in post graduation and minimum 55% marks in graduation provided that math and physics were studied.

About AFCAT Exam:

There are four sections for the online AFCAT examination. The four sections are named general awareness, numerical ability, verbal ability in English, and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. Two hours of time is allotted to solve 100 questions and the total marks awarded are 300. Candidates will get three marks for every correct answer and dedication of one mark is done for the wrong answer.
There is an EKT test that is engineering branch specific. The test duration is of 45 minutes and 150 marks are awarded in total for every correct answer.
